Gwyneth has been heavily involved with a local community action group in resurrecting what had become a derelict Sports Arena. Bringing together the aspirations of the action group and officers from the Borough and County Council collectively they raised funding of £ 638.000 to invest in what is now a fantastic multi sports' arena comprising an international standard athletics track; facilities for all infield events including the safety cage to accommodate the discus and hammer throwing. The cage alone cost £ 12.000.
This is complemented by the latest UEFA approved all weather astro-pitch used by top premiership clubs, and can be used also for hockey and rugby training. The texture is softer and safer, and is therefore ideal for children with disabilities. This alone cost £276,000.
Finally, the infield used by the athletics club also provides an excellent soccer pitch which is Premiership standard. If all that sounds very fanciful that is because it is! |

Gwyneth held the first public meeting on this project in February 2001. This started off as something special and it has taken all of five years and chairing numerous meetings, twisting the arms of funding sources such as the football foundation to get there and it has all been worthwhile. Our thanks go to everyone who helped from WREN, to various generous individuals and friends!
The Crewe sport complex compares with, and surpasses most of the comparable facilities in the North West. Well done everyone!!! |
