My work in Parliament
Parliamentary debate and discussion remains at the heart of the United Kingdom life and I am proud of my work representing Crewe and Nantwich in Westminster.
I am the Chair of the Transport Select Committee In addition, I have a special interest in National Health Service and have used my time in Parliament to highlight any problems that are relevant to Crewe and Nantwich.
Committee work involves examining specific topics in transport. We can summon Ministers and expert witnesses to answer our questions and concerns. The Committee reports resulting from these inquiries can be very influential - and also controversial if they do not agree with the Government. This does happen and I feel it is vital that committees report what they find, rather than what may be politically palatable.

Raising issues in Parliament not only highlights their importance to Ministers and Members of Parliament, it can also bring local issues into the national spotlight.
Another important part of the job is the access to information which Members of Parliament can get. I can ask any Government Minister a written or oral question and they have to give me an answer. I find this very useful getting the facts for people who have contacted me with a problem and also investigating issues such as housing, employment, benefits, health, education, immigration and the environment. Please contact me if you want me to assist in any way! |
